Surprise discoveries….

This is what I love about MAKING my collage / paper work. The surprise discoveries I could not imagine, but ‘discover’ when they just happen, while I am absorbed in the process of making them.

The above photo is something I am working on at the moment. I folded & cut magazine pages so they spread out from an actual magazine. It was ok, but didn’t have the spark of life I was looking for. I got curious to try it at a smaller scale, folding & cutting half a page, instead of a full size page. On its own, still lacking that spark of life. Now what? On a whim I decided to put the smaller scale page on top of the larger one, tucking it under the cuts, which combined the two scales in one space. Bingo! There’s that spark of life I was looking for! Brilliant !

These are the moments I love, the totally unplanned things, just randomly ‘discovered’ while engrossed in the process of making. They are so uplifting & energizing !

But now I am looking at it and thinking, what if it wasn’t contained within the boundaries of the magazine size? What if I take these pages, & cover a whole wall with them? Wow. Cool. I WANT TO SEE THAT!
