“All good things take time”

I’ve heard this saying so many times over my lifetime, & until a few years ago I’d always promptly dismissed it, because I’d bought into being the commercially acceptable working model of productive & efficient!

But since prioritizing creativity as #1 in my life, I’ve quickly come to realize that taking my time to make my art is indeed the only way for me to make good art. If I rush it, I’m not giving it the incubation time it needs to fully develop. Sometimes it feels like my photo collages take forever to ‘come together’, yet sometimes it’s so easy it scares me!

I’ve learnt these creative collaborations have their own clock, their own way of evolving, their own growth span. If they’re not ‘working out’, it’s better to just put it aside for a few days, & come back to it when I’m more open to what it wants to become! Sigh. It’s why I usually switch between my specialty of photo collage, paper collage & doodling. I’ve found it’s the most productive way to collaborate with my creativity!

The above photo is of a collection of 5 photo collages, made from the offcuts from another work (‘cause I don’t like waste!) that took over 2 months to complete. It reminded me over & over to fully accept that my creative process takes time……. & to let it have whatever time it needs.

I’ve noticed an improvement in my art as a result of doing this.

I’m also feeling more aligned with my own way to create things, respecting that it does need it’s own clock – which I recognize as a slow paced, wandering inner one – not the 24 hour outer clock I’ve spent most of my life working to!

Guess which clock I want to spend the rest of my life working with :o)
