‘Maggie’s garden’

Date:
Nov 4-14, 2020
Location:
Whanganui Art @ Centre, 19 Taupo Quay, Whanganui.

‘Maggie’s garden’ is an exhibition of photo collage & ‘pattern’.

It’s a dedication to my mother, Margaret Walford (Maggie), created by Vicky Walford (her daughter), as a visual celebration of our shared love of nature, photography, & craft, using personal photos of Maggie’s garden after she died.

My mother would take a photo & put it on the wall, but I take a photo, cut it up, & repeat it to create large photo collage abstracts. I particularly love bold colour & pattern, & for this exhibition I purposely explored using layered photos to create visual ‘quilts’ for walls. The results have been quite amazing to stand in front of, & the response / experience of them on the wall for visitors to the exhibition has been so positive that I will continue working on layered photo collages to create larger work!
