Evolving

OMG. Such big changes are happening in my creative life since my last blog post.

As I work through all the small steps to launching a new website (the subject of my last post), there are many things shifting & evolving along the way.

Taking my time & slowly working with the idea of a new version of tinkadoodle, with no set idea about exactly how it should look, has resulted in new website content, & art that, quite honestly, I’m actually very excited & proud of. As I work through each task one step at a time, I’m noticing how much I’m reclaiming my real self again, that girl I naturally was in my younger years (before all the editing started!) For the first time in my adult life, I’m not ashamed of my art, not ashamed to openly show my love for doodling & collage, for creating patterns from my snapshot photographs. I haven’t felt this way since I was about 10 years old, showing off my latest craft thing ( circular knitting in photo above!)

I’ve also stopped filtering my creative work through a ‘productive’ filter – you know –  getting things done efficiently aka ‘quickly’ thing. My creativity suffers, & is smothered / restricted by this approach (to be honest, so am I). During the past few months, I’ve found my creativity responds well to being given lots of space, & time, to ponder / mull things over, & move around freely. With no time limitation imposed on myself or my creative process, we are both much more relaxed & open in collaborating. I don’t plan anything. I just show up everyday, as if I’m visiting a friend. We start wherever we left off the day before, & spend quality time together making things.

It’s amazing to me how much better my art is now that we work this way. I’m also noticeably more content & happy too :o)

Yes, creative things definitely need space & time – to evolve, grow, & collaborate with. There really is no shortcut. I love this quote from Phillip Glass:

“I don’t know what I’m doing, & it’s the not knowing that makes it interesting.”

My curiosity & I couldn’t agree more!

And I do have time to invest in it – the rest of my life :o) Woohooo!!!

I really am so excited – & can’t wait to share more of this stuff with you on my new website – coming October 2020!!!
