Curiosity. Whenever it calls – I follow.

I love photographs as a resource of textures, colours, & shapes. They’re my collage material – a visual resource library of things that ‘caught’ my eye, & my curiosity! My photos are always images of things my curiosity wants to explore further, & creatively play with later.

My creative bias is ‘pattern’ – colours, shapes & textures, that come together, & play together. A visual gathering if you like. It’s a never ending source of fascination to me, to explore what’s possible to create from 1 single photograph (& it’s always more than I thought possible!)

Faith is a big part of my creative process here – not asking ‘why?’ or ‘what for?’- but instead following the question ‘what if ..?’, & trusting that in taking this one next step, & following the thread of my curiosity, what to do after that step will be revealed! It’s an unplanned adventure nowhere specific. Results certainly don’t matter to me here as much as the quest to discover what’s possible to create with the image. I feel like I’m literally searching for some hidden visual ‘treasure’! So much appears to be ‘ordinary’, but with a little curiosity, playfulness, patience, persistence, & assembling – suddenly I can experience a ‘woohoo’ moment of sheer delight – & in that moment  –  all the effort & time it took to discover it is so with the investment!!!

I’ve recently become aware I’m seeking to assemble a felt experience, with an image that never ‘sees’ / records what my eye witnesses, nor what my senses feel. Perhaps – more accurately – I’m assembling – via collage - something that sparks my heart…. a visual impression / experience ….. that I can then share with everyone else!

And I’ve also recently realized I make photo collages to learn, grow, & know a little more about myself – what I’m creatively capable of – which changes with each photo collage I make, so that’s never a ‘done’ thing, but a continuing road trip!  

This is the foundation of my next exhibition, ‘Louder than Words’, in Nov 2021.
