because it's FUN!!

Collage is fun to me because there are no ‘real’ rules to it, so I’m free to invent my own! The ‘rules’ are also flexible, so my ‘what if?’ curiosity can just relax & have a  good time playing a game with chaos & unknowns - never knowing exactly where we’ll end up!

The resulting abstract art isn’t intended to mean anything either - be ‘good’ or ‘bad’ - its just… well… what happens when we get together & play!

I just love playing the game….. Ya know? Cut. Paste. Layer (repeat!)

There’s NEVER any knowing what the collage will look like when I show up at the start - & that’s actually why I do love collage so much - for the unknown adventure of it all - just wandering along having fun with bits of paper.… totally losing track of time - it just doesn’t exist here - there is no clock! - just a rhythm & a flow to the creative game at hand……& I love it!!

I think Liz Gilbert was right when she said in her book BIG MAGIC - ‘… results cannot matter here’. The more results don’t matter - the more fun I’m able to have!

It’s the joy of pursuit, the fun of playing with the shapes, colours, textures etc that sparks off my happiness of being absorbed by this creative pursuit……. not of the finished collage itself -  but the slow game of curiously putting this with that…… until I’m ‘done’ playing - & am both delighted & surprised to see what ‘plays’ together in the collage! Quite often I feel like I’m receiving a lesson in this game - being shown what’s actually possible to create - if I just relax & have fun playing the game of cut, paste layer (repeat).

And if I don’t like it? If it’s not working out?

No stress - I can cut it up & reassemble it into another collage… just so I can keep playing the game - continue having a good time with the joy of pursuit - discovering what’s possible to create!!!

I mean - honestly - what the bleep do I know? Not a lot really……& it becomes fun when I just accept the fact I really know nothing, & blissfully travel along with that ignorance anyway - enjoying myself & having a good time along the way!

At 60 years young in 2021 - that’s what really matters most to me now - & it’s how I actually do want to ‘spend’ the rest of my days - traveling slowly along having a good time with my creativity!
